The people behind Future2

The Future2 Foundation is a charitable trust with deductible gift recipient (DGR) status, enabling donors to qualify for a tax deduction.

Youth is currently an area of special focus for Future2 grants.  The Foundation is looking to provide grants to not-for-profit organisations with creative and effective approaches to supporting young Australians whose lives are disadvantaged by poverty, homelessness or drug dependence.  Often these are projects without established sources of funds and which, with relatively small financial investment, have the capacity to put these young Australians on the road to fulfilling and productive lives.

The story of our name and logo

Future2's name was chosen to reflect the foundation's vision: to give a second chance and hope for a better future to Australians trapped in difficult financial circumstances.

Our logo is inspired by a very Australian hero: the desert wattle.
with a little support it grows in the most arid conditions:

It flourishes out of disturbed soil
Its roots knit together the soil and encourage other plants to grow
It offers shade for other, and a beautiful flower
It is the most prolific plant in the Australian desert.

The foundation of the financial planning profession

What makes Future2 different from any other foundation is its roots within the financial planning profession.

Future2 is a channel through which the financial planning profession and wider financial services industry can make a positive difference to the lives of those in need. Individuals and organisations can do this by:

Making donations to Future2 or to specific projects supported by Future2
Talking with clients about philanthropic giving through Future2
Setting up a workplace giving program for employees
Identifying community projects deserving of Future2 support.

Getting off the ground

Future2 was the initiative of a small group of members of the Financial Planning Association, the peak professional body for financial planners in Australia.  Their passion and commitment was instrumental in getting the foundation off the ground.

The FPA board gave its support to the proposed foundation in late 2006 and since then the FPA has assisted with set-up costs and in-kind support.

In 2007 Future2 has achieved a number of important milestones:

April 2007 Trust deed established and trustees appointed
Granted fundraising authority by the NSW Office of Charities
May Recognised by the ATO as a charitable fund exempt from GST and income tax
  Future2 named and brand created
August First independent director appointed - Michael Neary
November ATO confirmed Future2's status as a deductible gift recipient (DGR)
  Terry Power appointed Chair
Two $10,000 Make the Difference! Grants awarded
December AMP becomes Future2's first major corporate donor
Future2 raises $37,000 during FPA National Conference

Since then the Foundation has continued to build its profile, to raise funds, and to make grants to a range of community projects across Australia.

The annual FPA National Conference has been a focus for annual fundraising within the financial planning community, with the second day of the conference designated "Future2 Day".

Future2 launched its first emergency appeal in February 2009, resulting in funds of nearly $70,000 for allocation to a project or projects which will bring lasting benefits to the communities ravaged by the Victorian Bushfires.

Three further Make the Difference! grants were awarded in 2008 and trustees announced the third round of grants in November 2009.
