New grants awarded
Future2 Foundation trustees have granted $30,000 to three community projects supported by local financial planners. The 2008 round of Make the Difference! Grants have been awarded to projects supporting:
- Youth leadership development in north central Victoria rural communities
- Employment opportunities for socially excluded young people in Mackay, Queensland, by helping them gain their driver licences
- Programs to assist young Sudanese refugees adapt to their new lives in Adelaide.
“If the funds committed this year work as hard and as effectively as they did for projects supported last year, we will see many disadvantaged young Australians given a chance to build productive lives in the community – a chance that might otherwise have been denied them”, said Corinna Dieters, Future2 trustee and Chair of the Grants & Projects Committee.
The grants are awarded to:
Loddon Murray Community Leadership Program ($10,000). John Daniel, a FPA member was a graduate of the program in 1998. Today he contributes to the program’s skills workshops relating to financial management of community organisations, and supported the grant application to Future2.
Nile Youth Group and the Young Sudanese Women’s Network ($15,000). FPA SA Chapter Chair Kerrin Falconer enthusiastically supported the second grant.
Youth Information and Referral Service ($5,000) Frances Easton a member of the FPA Mackay Chapter nominated the project for consideration by Future2.
Further details on these projects will be available on the Future2 website shortly.
Women in Finance get behind Future2
A $2,272 donation to Future2 has been received from Women in Finance as a result of the very successful breakfast jointly hosted by WIF with the Financial Planning Association at the FPA 2008 National Conference on the Gold Cost. An early rise for breakfast was more than fully rewarded by an inspirational address from Ms Penelope Wensley AO, Governor of Queensland and a distinguished Australian diplomat.
Future2 shared WIF donations with the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Queensland, to which the proceeds from all WIF events in 2008 have been donated. Future2 trustees extend their thanks to WIF for its generosity and looks forward to building a mutually beneficial relationship.
Women in Finance, established in Queensland in 1996, provides members access to networking and professional development events along with opportunities to build relationships with other professional women in the industry. It now has branches throughout Australia.

Future2 film screened at FPA 2008 National Conference
FPA members had their first real opportunity to see the work of the Future2 Foundation during the FPA National Conference, and they were generous in their support.
The new Future2 film - Your Support - Their Future - was screened before a plenary audience and followed by an inspiring speech from World Vision's Tim Costello. Delegates also had the opportunity to view it at the Future2 stand on the FPA Meeting Place in the expo hall. Friday 21 November was 'Future2 Day' and there was an upsurge of support as those attending the conference donned supporter badges and tried their luck with the raffle.

Donor update
Individual contributions from FPA members and guests at the Charity Golf Day on 19 November and during the subsequent FPA 2008 National Conference totalled over $14,000 - a great show of support which we look forward to building on.
The trustees' thanks go to everyone who made donations. Every dollar makes a difference and the total is more than enough to fund a further community project and give a second chance and hope for a better future to more disadvantaged young people!
